LONDON CALLING....Union Jack Pillow DIY

HELLO LONDON!

It thought this might be fun since the Olympics are just around the corner.  I dig the Union Jack flag because it makes me want to shout “GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!” or just plain rock out to a Sex Pistols song.  Either way, this will give your décor a distinctively hip flavor and have your friends talking about how cool you are.  Rock out!

YOU’LL NEED
2 pieces of 15” x 20” pieces of blue plaid
1/4 yard of red plaid fabric
1/4 yard of white cotton fabric
Red and white thread
Sewing machine with zigzag capability
Straight pins
Pillow stuffing
Sewing needle and matching thread

HERE’S HOW
1.    In white fabric, cut out a strip that is 20” x 3 1/2” another strip that is 15” x 3 1/2” and two strips that are 25” x 2 1/2”
2.    In your red plaid fabric, cut out a strip that is 20”x 2 1/2, another strip that is 15”x 2 1/2” and two strips that are 25” x 1 1/2”
3.    Working on a flat surface, lay your 25” long white fabric strips in a big X on the pillow.
4.    Lay your white 20” strip horizontally across the middle of the pillow.
5.    Lay your 15” white strip vertically down the center of the pillow.
6.    Carefully pin everything in place.
7.    Using white thread, zigzag over all of the edges of the white to keep it in place.
8.    Lay your 15” piece of red plaid vertically down the center of the pillow centering it on the white.
9.    Lay your 20” piece of red plaid horizontally across the center of the pillow centering it on the white.
10. Cut both of your 25” pieces of red plaid in half.
11. Lay a strip on one leg of the X and trim it at an angle where it meets the cross like you see in the photo.
12. Do this on the other 3 legs of the X
13. Pin all these pieces in to place and zigzag all around each piece.
14. Clip your excess threads.
15. Place your other piece of blue plaid fabric on top of your design (right sides together)
16. Sew both pieces all the way around using a 1/2” seam allowance and leaving a 5” long hole so that you can turn it inside out.
17. Clip the corners at an angle (this is done so that you don’t’ have excess fabric in the corners of your pillow)
18. Turn the pillow right side out through your 5” hole.
19. Stuff will pillow stuffing.
20. Sew hole closed with your sewing needle and matching thread.
Here's another version switching up the colors and using a wide ribbon instead of the fabric strips.

Glitter-N-Glue Shoe Redo!

Hi everyone!  If you don't know her already, this is my friend Kristen Turner from GlitterNGlue.com
She's a DIY diva and she stopped by the craft house with a glitter emergency the other day.  Yes, a Glitter Emergency.  That's when your outfit needs some sparkle and shine and you're short on time.
Two hours later she had a fancy new pair of shoes and had convinced me to freshen up her toenail polish.  What can I say, it was a BLAST hanging out with her.

Check out her site and here's our

She Crafts He Crafts (and HE almost has a breakdown)

Welcome to our 3rd installment of Stephenie (www.mycraftyadventures.com) gives Mark a brain tumor trying to come up with something amazing for our She Crafts He Crafts segment.  This one was a challenge for me, but if you know me, you know I love a challenge.  When I first got this clipboard I thought "Hey, this will be easy squeezy!"  It wasn't.
So, as always when I'm in doubt,  I pulled out some book pages and the Spellbinders Grand Caliber embossing machine and went to town.  It had to be the big guns this time!
I decided that this clipboard should be an EXPERIENCE rather than just a clipboard.  So before we get started, here is what my friend, the talented (and lovely) Stephenie Hamen created with her clipboard.
It's beautiful!  Make sure to get over to her site and leave a comment and you'll be entered to win a box of goodies.
My "RUBBING CLIPBOARD"
This clipboard allows you to rub your paper when you're done writing and create stationery.

YOU'LL NEED
Clipboard
Book pages
White card stock
Elmer's Glue
Elmer's Spray Adhesive (optional)
Embossing machine
Embossing folder with a pattern you like
Image you like
Black Crayola

Place your image in your copy machine and copy it on a large book page by running the book page through your home printer.
Water down some Elmer's Glue All and adhere it to your clipboard.  Add more book pages to fill the empty spaces if you need to.
Glue some book pages to white card stock.  You can use spray adhesive or Elmer's Glue All.
When your card stock book pages are dry run them through the embossing machine.
Trace out the corners of your clipboard for a pattern.
Cut out four corner pieces and glue them on with more Elmer's Glue All.
Rub the edges with some black crayon to give it some interest.
*Coat the entire clipboard with more Elmer's and let dry.  This will give it a protective finish.
When you're done writing your note, rub the pencil or crayon over the embossed corners to create some interest on your stationery.
