Famous Art Jewelry

Do you have a favorite piece of art?  If so, how about turning it into a piece of jewelry that you can wear wherever you go?  I used Gustav Klimt for this project because I'm in awe of his use of color and pattern mixed with gold leaf.   That said, any piece of art will work for this project.  Simply print it out on your home computer and follow my instructions to make your own.  Remember to have fun, make messes and always Make Your Mark!
My stack of Gustav Klimt bangles

I love the face on the middle bangle

E-6000 Spray Adhesive and Glue
Americana Multi-Purpose Sealer
Popsicle sticks (I like the jumbo sticks)
Water bottle
Metallic gold paint marker
Gems (optional)
Here's How
1.  Boil the sticks for about 10 minutes until they are soft
2. & 3.  Gently bend them to fit inside of the mouth of a small glass and let them dry overnight
*Different sized glasses make different sized bangles
4.  Position and trace flat Popsicle sticks on your art and cut out the shapes
5. & 6.  Spray the face of the cutouts with water and the back with E-6000 Spray Adhesive and then stick the art to the curved Popsicle stick
7.  Edge the bracelet with a gold paint marker
8.  Seal with a multi-purpose sealer
9.  Add gems with E-6000 glue and a toothpick

Your arm is now an art gallery!

Fringe Lamp DIY

I got up this morning thinking about a fringe lamp I made for The Big Ass Book of Home Decor.  What an easy project to make that can be done in any color to match any room.....with almost any wire lamp shade base.  I'm definitely going to revisit this project and see how I can update it.  Happy Saturday!  Remember to have fun, update old projects and always Make Your Mark!
Fringe comes in every color under the sun!
An expensive version with brass by Hans Agne-Jakobsson
Stuff You'll Need
Americana Multi-Surface Satin in Red Barn (or a color to match your fringe)
Several yards of 3" - 4" long fringe (longer if you can find it)
Hot glue gun
1 yard chain
"S" hook
Needle nose pliers
Wire lampshade
White glue

Here's How
1.  Cut your chain into 3 12" lengths.
2. Paint the wire lamp base with your red Multi-Surface Satin and let dry
3. & 4. Attach your chain on the wide end of the base equally spaced apart and connect the chains at the top with your “S” hook.
5. Carefully hot glue the fringe (using very little dabs of hot glue!) on each wire all over the base.
6. & 7.  add 1 or two rings of fringe on the inside by gluing the fringe in between the wires.
8.  Take your white glue and go around all of the fringe where it touches the wire frame.  Don’t worry, it will dry clear.

Boho Ribbon DIY!

In my never ending quest to use my leftover fabric pieces, I decided to try my hand at making some funky ribbons......I have absolutely no idea what I'm going to do with these, but I'm sure in no time they will be on everything from pillows to table runners.  The best part (about making these) is that you don't need a sewing machine.  Just grab some E-6000 Stitchless and an iron and you're in business.  If you do have a sewing machine and want to use it for this project, a zigzag stitch with a colorful thread will add some extra pizzazz.  I know I say this often, but I truly love this project.  Hope you do, too.  Remember, save your scraps, mix patterns and always Make Your Mark!
Rolled and ready!
These are all made using E-6000 Stitchless

See how easy it is to make here!
Stuff You'll Need
E-6000 Stitchless (Iron on glue)
Printed cotton fabrics
Iron
Pinking shears (or decorative edge scissors)
Here's how
1.  Draw 1 1/2" lines across the fabric
2. & 3.  Cut the strips, along the lines, with the pinking shears
4.  Draw 1" lines across a contrasting/matching fabric
5.  Cut the 1" strips with pinking shears
6. & 7.  Add a thin line of E-6000 Stitchless to the end of a 1 1/2" strip and iron it to another strip
*Continue doing this to create a long piece of 1 1/2" wide ribbon
8. & 9.  Add thin lines of Stitchless to the edges of the 1" strips and press them to center of the the
1 1/2" wide strips
Boho beautiful!

Roadside Rescue Nightstand Makeover

I can't do it....I can't pass up a piece of perfectly good furniture on the side of the road.  I at least have to TRY to spruce it up.  Hey, if it doesn't work out, I can always put it back outside again, right?  This little nightstand looked so lonely when I saw it on my street corner and because it was so kooky, I decided to go nuts with it.  I discovered something amazing while working on it, too......the new Americana Decor Satin Enamels will paint over ANYTHING and make it look brand new.  Remember to have fun, rescue furniture and always Make Your Mark!
Still not sure where this little guy is going to end up...

Old nightstand
Americana Decoupage
Americana Decor Satin Enamels in Charcoal Gray

Easy Carved Wood Printing Blocks

I'm a big fan of the traditional wood printing blocks from India.  Not only are they wonderful pieces of decor, they're really fun to use, too.  Because I can't throw anything away I decided to experiment with my wood scraps and see if I could carve some of my own wood printing blocks using my adult coloring books as pattern inspiration.  The first couple were a mess until I realized that my handy Dremel would be the perfect tool for this project!  As soon as I heard that little engine buzzing I couldn't stop making them.  I have a feeling you might get hooked, too.  Remember, have fun, use your scraps and don't forget to Make Your Mark!
A few of my favorites
I can't wait to make more

Watch the video here
STUFF YOU'LL NEED
Jigsaw and Dremel
Wood blocks
 1.  Using adult coloring book pages for inspiration, draw your design on scrap wood
2. Carefully cut out the shape with a jigsaw
*You can skip this step and only work on squares if you want.....It's up to you
3. Carve out your design with the Dremel
*Add lots of detail with dots and lines to make your blocks more interesting
4.  Sand the sides and face of the block
5. & 6.  Gather your paints and foam sheets
7. Place the foam sheet under the fabric, sponge paint on the surface of the printing block
*The foam sheets allow for the wood block to stamp evenly on the fabric surface
8.  Carefully add even pressure to the printing block on the fabric
9.  Use the extra small scraps for smaller printing blocks
Americana Multi-Surface Satin paints work well on fabrics once they are cured
See you next week!

Summer Watermelon Bowls DIY

I have been googling watermelon bowls all summer and finally decided to try my hand at painting my own.  It took some experimenting, but I figured out a great way to keep the colors looking their truest.  The best part?  These are food and dishwasher safe!  Just take your time and let the paint dry in between coats and you'll be just fine!  I may not even use them for food because I really like how they look empty.  What do you think?  Remember, have fun, paint everything and don't forget to
Make Your Mark!
 Almost too pretty to use
I like them hanging around just like this!
Watch the quick video tutorial here!
STUFF YOU'LL NEED
Paint brushes (I like the fine hair brushes when painting on glass)
Rubbing alcohol
Glass bowls in different sizes
Oven
HERE'S HOW
1.  Clean the outside of the bowl with rubbing alcohol
2. Paint a line of dark green around the edge of the bowl about 1/4" wide
*Dab the edges so it's a fuzzy line, not a clean, sharp line
3.  Paint seeds with black
4. & 5.  Paint a 3/4" wide fuzzy white line above the green fuzzy line overlapping them slightly
6. Mix the True Red and White to create a dark pink and paint 2 coats over the seeds
up to the white line
7.  Next paint over the entire bowl with white and let dry
8. & 9.  Paint part of the bowl with the Foliage Green
10.  While still wet, paint the rind stripes with the Dark Green
*Thin at the center of the bowl and getting wider as you reach the rim
11.  Touch up until it looks like a watermelon rind
12.  Follow the instructions for curing and baking on the Gloss Enamels packaging
Yum!
