Not sure if you know this but the average adult gets 5 - 10 pieces of junk mail per day! That is a lot of trees just tossed in the garbage. Quite frankly, it makes me kind of sad. This junk mail journal is my small way of honoring those poor trees who gave up their lives so I could apply for another credit card that I don't need or want. Using junk mail is a fun way to teach kids about upcycling and repurposing. The shapes of the pages give an interesting jump start to your journal pages, too! I'm cuckoo for Marabu's Art Crayons and all of the beautiful art journal techniques you can create with them! I was so excited about my pages I decided to bind them with fabulous marbled covers. What I've created are my initial pages which will eventually be rubber stamped, decoupaged and written on. You know, like a real, organic art journal that just keeps on keepin'-on! What I love most about the art crayons is that you can manipulate them with sponges and water and when you're finally satisfied, you can spray them with a fixative for further work with other mediums. I love book binding, but let's be real, some of the traditional methods can take forever. Recently I discovered something awesome about one of my favorite products....It works PERFECTLY for quick book binding projects because it's flexible and clear when it dries. Can you guess what I'm talking about? The best thing about these journals is that you can use vinyl OR leather and embellish them any way you want. I painted my edges with metallic gold, but you could embellish with a brass bird or gems. Just remember to have fun, make journals and don't forget to Make Your Mark!
