Faux Marble Pendant Lamp DIY

When I go to a hardware or dollar store I get a fluttery feeling in my stomach thinking of all the possibilities.  Gorgeous frames, funky glassware, weird hardware bits and pieces in plastic boxes all lined up on the display.  It makes me happy.  When I pick something up I never think about what it's for, but what it could be...A headboard, a side table, a diorama or in this case, a pendant lamp.   Frames, "L" brackets and spray paint made these gorgeous lamps and they look fabulous on my patio!  Consider the possibilities, sweet friends, and always Make Your Mark!

Happy Scrappy Hanging Lamps

I can't tell you how many lampshades I end up with in my storage. TONS!  Some are in great shape, others are ready to be reimagined for my next video.  For these shades I wanted to create something whimsical, happy, light and magical and I couldn't be happier with them.  A few fabric scraps, faux flowers and butterflies and voila!  Perfect for a kids room, to hang on a patio or to brighten up a pure white space.  Not every shade needs to have fabric all the way around it, some look just great with a low watt soft bulb or with nothing at all.  Make something bright, my sweet friends, and always

Rag Rug Pendant Lamp

I've always loved the shabby chic lampshades covered in strips of fabric so I thought I'd take that technique and create something over-the-top for my backyard.  After a little bit of weaving (you'll never guess where I got all of the fabric strips!) I had a pendant lamp worthy of my colorful patio!  Pick colors that match your decor if this is too much for you.  Use ribbon or strands of beads for this to make it a little different.  Heck, use all three together!  Fact is, the base is what this project is all about.  Remember, have fun, make light and always Make Your Mark!

 Why not make two?

Watch how I did it here
 STUFF I USED
Rag rug (you could use fabric strips)
Wire planter baskets
Light cord and eco-friendly bulb
Wire
 HERE'S HOW
1.  Trim off the fringe and remove the strips of fabric from the rug
2.  Tie a knot at the base of the basket and start weaving around and around tying the strips of fabric to each other as you go
3.  Continue until you get to the bottom and secure with another knot
*You could use just one, but I used two for my lamp
5.  Thread the cord through the base of one basket and screw in the eco-friendly bulb
*Eco-friendly bulbs do not give off heat
6.  Wire the mouths of each woven basket together and hang

Mixed Pattern Pendant Lamp DIY

Years ago I was on a show called While You Were Out on TLC (which still airs on Discovery Family, BTW).  We gave an unsuspecting homeowner a room a makeover in two days, mostly to their delight, bus sometimes not.  Because we were always on a budget, this hanging pendant lamp became a staple for me.  It's bold, can be made to match any room and allowed me to spend my budget on more important things like sofas and rugs.  I often find sets of lampshades at thrift stores which are perfect for this project, so keep an eye out when you're shopping.  These were $2 each.  Remember, have fun and make messes...Oh, and don't forget to Make Your Mark!

Spicing up the patio
Watch how I made them here!
STUFF YOU'LL NEED
2 Matching lampshades
Fabric of choice
Glue gun
Butcher paper, ruler and scissors

HERE'S HOW:
1. & 2. Carefully roll the lampshade on the butcher paper (while tracing the edges with a pencil) to create the pattern and cut out
3.  Pin and cut on folded fabric
4. & 5. Spray the lampshade with E-6000 Spray Adhesive and press the fabric to the shade
6.  Hot glue the edge of the fabric down
*use very little hot glue for this
7.  Match the fabric seams and glue the shades together with E-6000 Glue
*don't use hot glue because the heat of the bulbs may cause your glue to melt
8. . Hot glue the 1/2" bias trim around the side to cover the seams, center and edges of the pendant
9.  Fold the end of the bias over 1/4" to give a clean finish
 Hang and enjoy!
