After searching for fun dishes at every flea market and thrift store, I decided to make my own from 99c store glass plates. I wanted something handmade that someone could actually eat off of them and this process worked perfectly. All of the spray paint and decoupage is on the underside. Using positionable spray adhesive is the key when applying the doilies. Watch the video to see exactly how it's done. I've included the images for these dishes, so print them out and make a whole set.
Have fun! xoxo, Mark

ReplyDeleteCan you tell me if these plates are food safe or just decorative.thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Kirsty, Yes, you can eat off of these plates because all of the paint and decoration is on the underside of the glass.
DeleteCan you tell me if these plates are food safe or just decorative.thanks
ReplyDeleteFood safe because you're only painting on the back of the plates. Not on the front.
DeleteI'm having the hardest time finding glass plates to use. I tried 4 different dollar trees!
ReplyDeleteTry Ikea. They have some very nice glass plates. I tend to find them at most dollar stores. Sorry you're having such a hard time. Mine were by Lumerac and I got them at a very basic dollar store.
DeleteThis is great; more ideas on reverse decoupage. In the BAB of home décor you made mirrors with looking glass spray and Asian women images, can you share where you found those images ? Thanks <Marcia
ReplyDeleteHello, I love this and would like to do it in a thai theme. My problem is I like the way the spray paint looks but can't seem to find dishwasher safe, glass enamel spray paint. The only option I have found is the normal craft enamel but I don't like the look of the brush strokes. Is there such a thing as spray paint for glass that's dishwasher safe? If so where do I find it? If not, can I layer mod podge over the paint once dry? Or would it still flake over time? Maybe mod podge first, then spray paint then mod podge again? Help!
ReplyDeleteYou can spray them and then use a dishwasher safe Decoupage from Americana. Just make sure to let it dry for the amount of time it requires. This is very good stuff and will do what you need once you've sprayed your plates. Here's the link: http://www.createforless.com/DecoArt-Americana-Decou-Page-8-oz.-Dishwasher-Safe/pid268421.aspx
ReplyDeletethanks for the tutorial, but can you tell me where to get large doilies?
