Painted Leaves

On the days I don't hit the gym, I walk around Silverlake reservoir.  It's a beautiful walk filled with trees, flowers and a dose of much needed peace before I tackle my day.  I almost always leave with a tiny notebook and a pen so that I can jot down any ideas I have because my BEST ideas hit when I'm not able to write them down.  Every day on my walk I pass a spot littered with huge leaves that almost look prehistoric, they're so big.  It's easy to imagine the dinosaurs munching on them.  Every time I pass these leaves I swear I'm going to bring some home to paint......and this week, I finally did.  I spent a relaxing morning with coffee and jazz just painting on my free, dinosaur snack, canvases.
Next time you need some new materials to paint on, head out for a walk.

Enjoy! xoxox, Mark

  4. What a beautiful idea. Your painted leaves are lovely. However, your mentioning of Silver Lake takes my memory back about two years ago, visiting and lunching with my daughter at Masa of Echo Park for Chicago style pizza. Scrumptious. When an idea surfaces in my brain, and I don't have my journal on hand, I do my best to remember one key word to help hold the thought until I can get it down on paper. I'll have to find some New York paint worthy leaves to play with.

  5. Masa is one of my favorite restaurants in Echo Park.....In fact, they catered my wedding! That pizza is amazing! Can't wait to see your leaves. I always found wonderful leaves in Tompkin's Square Park by my apartment on East 9th street.

  8. Hi Mark...We live here in Savannah GA. There is an abundance of gorgeous leaves as well as the the bark thathas peeled away and has fallen on the ground. As I always walk to my mail box about half an acre up to the gate where to mail box is, I always contemplate picking up some of that lovely smooth bark and bringing it inside to paint on. One reason that I don't bring the bark in the house is there fear of tiny bugs in it. So my question is, is it safe to bring a piece in the house and is there a procedure of making sure the bark is clean from any little critters? 😉
