Whimsical Lamp Makeovers

I have the best thrift stores near my home and very often I can find lamps for $5 each for my DIY projects.  These ginger jar lamps were perfect for this whimsical makeover! I know the stripes aren't perfect but the lamps were just too heavy for my old record player hack.  Instead, I opted for using my lazy susan which was just fine.  I also ended up loving the wonky stripes a bit more.  There is something truly "handmade" about them!  Go nuts with fabrics and trims for your shades and just have fun!  For $5 you can experiment, right?!  Stay creative, awesome friends, and always

Patchwork Boho Lampshades

Have a lampshade in need of some spicing up?  This patchwork shade just might be the ticket!  Using only fabric glue, some matching trim and scrap fabrics, you can completely revamp a dusty old lampshade in need of some love.  I used a monochromatic color scheme, but you could totally go nuts with every color in the rainbow!  The best part is that you can do this in just a few hours and totally change the look of your space.  Use what you have my friends and always Make Your Mark!

Floral Lampshades with Unicorn SPiT

I snagged some simple lampshades at a thrift store for a song and you know me, if I can paint it or glue something on it, it's not safe! It's just how I live my life, friends.  I pulled out a few of my favorite adult coloring book pages for a pattern inspiration and then went nuts with my stash of Unicorn SPiT.  I used floral pages, but any pattern would work.  You might try copying the page and coloring it before you jump into painting the lampshade. This way you'll know how you want them to look.  I think they give a stained glass feel and that's just fine with me.  Remember, if it's not tied down, embellish it!  Oh, and always Make Your Mark!

STUFF I USED
Plain fabric lampshades
Allure Dimensional Design Adhesive Paint in Gloss Black
Clothespins
Pompom trim
E-6000 Fabri-Fuse
HERE'S HOW
1.  Trace the shape of the lampshade on the back of the adult coloring book page and cut out
2.  Tape it inside the lampshade and put the lamp inside
3.  With the lightbulb on, trace the pages lightly with a pencil
4.  Trace over the pencil lines with Allure in Gloss Black and let dry
5. - 9. Slightly water down your favorite colors of Unicorn SPiT and start painting the flowers and leaves
10.  When the shades are dry, spray them with Minwax lacquer and let dry
11.  Using E-6000 Fabri-Fuse, glue mini pompom trim around the rims of each shade
12.  Hold in place with clothespins while they dry
 Brilliant and blooming!

Pleated Lampshades DIY

I've always wondered how to make pleated lampshades and I could never figure it out!  BTW, I still haven't figured it out.  Instead, I devised my own special way of doing it that's fool-proof!  Yup, I'm the fool who had to invent another way to make pleated lampshades.  Turns out, I'm just fine with this technique because it's seriously hard to mess up.  The best part is there is absolutely NO sewing!  None!  Just a little ironing and some glue.  I'm all IN.  Remember, make messes, invent new solutions and always Make Your Mark!

STUFF YOU'LL NEED
Lampshade with wire base
Glue gun
Iron
Fabric
Ruler
Scissors
HERE'S HOW
1. & 2.  Remove the cover from the old lampshade and scrape off any glue with a craft knife
3. Fold the fabric on a diagonal matching the straight edges
4. 5. & 6.  Measure 1" lines from the diagonal fold and then cut the fabric in 1" wide strips
*Cutting on the diagonal is also known as cutting on the bias which is why it's called bias tape
7.  Thread the 1" bias strips through the bias tape maker and iron as you pull it from the tip
*This is how you make bias tape
8. & 9.  Hot glue the end of the bias tape to the rim of the wire shade and start wrapping from top to bottom overlapping every 1/4" to 3/8"
10. & 11.  Optional:  Trim the shade by hot glueing the edge of piece of bias around the rim.  Finish it by folding over the raw edge 1/4"
12.  Glue the other edge of the bias on the inside of the shade
Make a pendant or add them to a fun lamp base and you're done!

Pleats please!
