Resin Art Piece DIY

My friend Mona from CraftKlatch is a resin master!  She challenged me to create a resin art piece for a video collaboration and this is what happened.  The main thing I learned is that you have to coat the twigs with resin or sealer BEFORE you use them in resin or they cause bubbles.  Because I added glitter to the resin it really didn't matter, but lesson learned!  Remember to make your resin projects outside.....and to have fun.  xoxo, Mark
Since you can see the wall color, this piece will match any room!
Photographing resin is a challenge.  Lots of reflection!
Might be fun to put over a window in a bathroom
Resting comfortably (for now) on my desk
See how to make this here!
STUFF YOU'LL NEED
Glaze Coat (epoxy resin)
Butterfly images
Glitter
Twigs
Copies of leaves

Beautiful butterflies to print for your piece

  1. I've been painting a lot of butterflies lately too. I like the warm brown tones in the ones you've chosen.

    1. I should probably start by saying I'm a huge fan. The idea of "home worthy" projects really resonated with me when I first found "The Big Ass Book of Crafts". Thanks for sharing so many ideas.

      My butterflies are here: http://styleliteral.blogspot.com/2015/08/5-butterfly-paintings.html

  3. I LOVE twigs and I love this idea! I still have to try but I'd like to use real leaves, if that would work. :)

    1. I think the real leaves might work (or silk). I added these in last because I felt it needed a bit more. Thanks for stopping by Jane!

  4. What size frame did u use and how much of the product resin did u use? I assume that the acrylic picture cover becomes part w the resin? very cool project, would love to try it out on a smaller scale at first...

  5. Hi Brenda, I would start with the smaller piece first and get the 1 Quart Famowood Glaze Coat. You're right, the acrylic box frame becomes part of the piece. For the best results only use a small amount ot the resin first (like 1/4") and then set your pieces in place. When that sets, build with more leaves and twigs, mix the rest and then add it over the first pour.
