SHRINE ON!

Last week I had my assistant Will help me clean out my craft house a bit.  Wow can that guy organize! Underneath my cutting table he found a stash of shrines I had made years ago. Not even sure why I made them to be honest other than I was inspired.  Thought I'd drag them out, photograph them and share them with  you before they get hidden away again.  Since my new book, Vision Box Idea Book is out soon, this is the perfect time to share these ideas.  I hope you enjoy them!

YOU'LL NEED

Elmer's wood glue

Krylon spray paints

Elmer's glue all

Glitter

Buttons

Images

Hammer and nails

Rubber Stamps

Wood scraps

Fabric roses

Votive holders

Buddhas from the 99c store

Popsicle sticks

 The base of this is made with 2x4 pieces left over from another project.  

 I always like to decorate the sides and the backs of my pieces.

 I love popsicle sticks and think they make a great base for this.

 I don't remember why I made this one, but I think it had to do with beauty.

 This is a double sided shrine made with wood scraps and tons of sequins.  The big images on the wall are large rubber stamps that I made for The Big Ass Book of Crafts vol. 1

MASQUERADE MASK GREETING CARD.......

I like greeting cards that do something other than just fill up a junk drawer. The recipient can actually wear the masquerade mask.  This is the perfect idea for a masquerade party invite. The design was inspired by one of my favorite movies, THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO.  You know, when he invites everyone to the ball so he can introduce himself as the count and seek revenge on his ex best friend who  schemed to get him tossed into the Chateau d’If......I could go on and on, but you should rent the movie.  You'll love it.

YOU’LL NEED:

1 sheets of scrapbook paper that you like

X-acto knife

Scissors

1 yard of 1/4” wide ribbon

Hole punch

Clear tape

HERE’S HOW:    

1.    Trace the pattern that I’ve given you (or make your own using mine as a guide) on to the scrapbook paper and cut out.

2.    Carefully score the mask part so that it folds easily and then cut out the eyes last.

3.    Carefully cut out the envelope and score so that it folds easily.

4.   Fold the mask and then punch a holes on the ends.

5.    Cut the 1 yard of ribbon in half and string through the holes

6.    Tape one side of the mask to the end of the envelope part.

7.    Fold and send.

SHOE REDO CRAFT NIGHT IN LOS ANGELES!

How I wish you could have all joined me and BC Shoes last night for our Craft Night at CAFAM.  We seriously had it going on!  A spray paint booth with Krylon Glitter Blast and various spray paints and TONS of supplies to choose from to make your shoes into anything your heart desired.  Here are a few photos from the night and a little inspiration.

"GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!" BRIEFCASE.....How-to-torial

“GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!” BRIEFCASE

I had to name this briefcase “God Save The Queen” for obvious reasons.  It’s a Union Jack Flag…..What other reason could there be?  I’ve been finding these hard Samsonite briefcases everywhere for a while now and most of the time they don’t’ cost more than 2 bucks….So, I keep buying them in hopes that one day they will make a distinctive crafty project.  Well folks, here you go.  Rock out on your way to work!

YOU’LL NEED

1 hard briefcase

1/4 yard of blue plaid fabric

1/4 yard of red plaid fabric

White Krylon Fusion Spray Paint

Elmer’s Spray Adhesive

1 small can of Minwax Polycrylic Clear Coat

Small paintbrush

Masking tape

newspaper

Fine sandpaper

HERE’S HOW

1.    Print out a Union Jack flag from the internet to use as your guide.

2.    Clean and lightly sand your briefcase to prepare it for painting.

3.    Tape newspaper around the parts you don’t want to paint like the handle and the metal clasps. 

4.    Paint the briefcase with the white spray paint and let dry.

5.    Figure out your pattern on top of your briefcase using a pencil and ruler.

6.    Cut out the corresponding shapes in fabric.

7.    Spray the fabric shapes and glue them right on top of the briefcase.

8.    After your design is finished, coat the fabric and white area in the Minwax Polycrylic Clear coat and let dry.

9.    Give it another coat of the Minwax so that it’s nice and sturdy.

*Optional:  I made a Cameo with a photo of the Queen and placed it right in the center of the briefcase with some E-6000.

IKEA 1/2 DOME PAPERWEIGHT......

HALF DOME PAPER WEIGHT

This paperweight is made from a glass candle holder that is so popular that I would bet 20 bucks you have a version of it in your house right now.  If you don’t, I owe you 20 bucks.  Ikea, Pier One, K-Mart, Target and the corner store all make them and include them with the candle sets we all give and get every year.  What I’m trying to say is that they are popular.  If you really don’t have one, head to the thrift store, they will have 30 on the shelves or just use something similar.  Heck, I’ll even send you one.  I have at least 100 of them hanging around.

YOU’LL NEED

Small glass dome tea light holder (Ikea and everywhere else)

Elmer’s glue

Clear Resin (I use ICE RESIN)

Small image

Glitter

OUTDOOR SPACE TO WORK…..I MEAN IT!

HERE’S HOW

1.    Clean your glass piece perfectly!

2.    Cut your image so that it comfortably fits on the bottom of your glass piece and so that you can see it from the bottom (when it’s upside down)

3.    Slightly water down some Elmer’s glue and glue it to the bottom of the glass piece and let it dry.

4.    Sprinkle a tiny bit of glitter in the glass.

5.    Mix your resin following the instructions carefully (AND DOING ALL OF THIS OUTSIDE……I REPEAT, DO THIS OUTSIDE IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA!) and fill your container.

6.    Let dry overnight
