Tie Dye Glass Jars

I hoard jars.  There, I said it.  I can't help it. They're way too useful and perfect to use in many of my DIY projects.  When I got my cup turner last year, I decided that it wouldn't just be for making tumblers...I mean, how many darn tumblers to you need anyway?  I started experimenting with all kinds of vessels and jars just made sense.  Coupled with the Marabu Alcohol Inks and a little resin, these jars became the most beautiful containers for plants, pencils and battery operated tea lights. They even sparkle at night!  Upcycle everything, sweet friends, and always Make Your Mark!

Fancy Canister DIY - Upcycled Jar Makeover

The rule in my house is give everything gets 2nd life!  Jars, cans, newspaper, cardboard & plastic containers never end up in the garbage UNLESS they truly can't be repurposed.  I have tons of these Nescafe instant coffee jars and they are my absolute favorite to makeover.  A little tissue paper for color and some images printed on your computer will give you an amazing set of mini canisters to show off in your space.   Currently these are on my kitchen counter waiting to be filled, but I have a feeling they'll end up in my craft house.  Rescue those craft supplies headed for the garbage bin and you'll never be bored, my sweet friends!  Oh, and always Make Your Mark!

 This jar makeover is sure to make your spring evenings more magical when you fill them with battery operated tea lights and let them glow!  Change up the colors, fill them with flowers, branches or twigs and you'll have something truly special.  All that from a pasta jar!  Who knew?

Gorgeous Floral Jar Makeover

I can't seem to toss a jar no matter how hard I try so I'm always coming up with ways to turn them into something spectacular.  You might know I'm a huge fan of MacKenzie Childs so I thought I'd see if I could pay homage to her with my never ending stash of Nescafe jars.  A little paint and some prints from your home computer will get you going on this project.  Switch up the details and images to your taste.  Reuse and upcycle as much as you can, my friends, and don't forget to

THINGS I USED

Americana Decor Texture in Bright Gold

Americana Multi-Surface Satin Paints

E6000 Plus

Americana Matte Spray Lacquer

Old Sponge

 HERE'S HOW

1.  Paint the jars white and let dry

2. & 3.  Sponge the jars in different shades of the same color and let dry

*I chose different blues, yellows and corals

4. Cut out different images

*Here are links to the FLOWERS and HARLEQUIN 
5.  Rip the harlequin print and decoupage it on the side of the jar
*The shape is up to you
6.  Decoupage the flowers over the harlequin around the jar
7.  Paint the lid with Vintage Brass Matte Metallics
8.  Decoupage more harlequin on top of the jar
9. 10. & 11.  Cut your stencil and with a palette knife, add Americana Decor Texture in Bright Gold over the flowers as an accent
12.  Glue the knob onto the lid with E6000 Plus
Done!

So happy with these!

Christmas Jars

I have a hundred jars in my cabinets.  If you follow me, you know that I love a good jar makeover, so I save every one!  You might also know that I'm kind of a hoarder.  It's a trait I share with many of my crafty friends.  This year I went a little Christmas crazy and turned some of my instant coffee jars into stained glass, sparkly vases and lanterns.  Yup, you can either put a candle in them OR a pretty Christmas flower arrangement.  My favorite part of this project was frosting the top and bottom of each jar using simple white spray paint.  Have fun and don't forget to Make Your Mark!

STUFF I USED

Glass jars

Unicorn Spit

Allure Dimensional Design Adhesive Paint

Rust-o-leum Lacquer 

Krylon White spray paint

Pinecones and ribbon

White glue

 HERE'S HOW

1.  Lightly spray the top and bottom of each jar

2. Draw your leaves and berries with the black Allure

3. Create Evergreen sprigs with Green Allure

4.  Mix Dragon's Belly Unicorn SPiT with a small amount of white glue

5. Fill in the leave design

6. Mix Molly Red Unicorn SPiT with white glue and fill in the berries

7. Use Allure Glitter in green & red to accent the Evergreen sprigs, leaves & berries

8.  Coat your jars with lacquer and let dry

9.  Tie a ribbon around the mouth of the jar and glue pinecones over the knot

11. & 12.  Fill with either candles or Christmas flowers

Blue and White Jar Makeover

I'm a huge fan of everything blue and white!  I have pieces from all over the world and from every different time period.  Blue and white porcelain first became popular in China in the 14th century, but there are many pieces that predate that.  After the printing techniques were discovered in the 18th century, blue and white became extremely popular all over Europe and America with popular patterns like Blue Willow, which I have been collecting most of my life.  Yes, I was an old lady at birth!  Because I love it so much, I thought it might be fun to make some of my own with a few bottles, jars and vases I had cluttering up my cabinets.  I also gave a Jack Daniels bottle a sweet makeover, too!  This project was almost as fun as finishing off that JD, btw!  Remember to recycle your old items for DIY projects and always Make Your Mark!

Colorful Summer Lanterns

I'm obsessed with jars. I will not throw them away and my cabinets are overflowing with them.  Thankfully I was able to make a little room in one of the cabinets by making several of these colorful summer lanterns!   DecoArt makes this amazing stained glass paint called Crystal Gloss Enamels and I LOVE the stuff.  You can bake it for a dishwasher safe finish or just let it dry like I did for these little numbers.  They come in beautiful colors AND allow candle light to emanate in the most beautiful way.  Remember to recycle and always Make Your Mark!

 HERE'S HOW

1.  Draw vertical lines about 3/4" to 1" apart from the very top of the jar to the bottom all the way around

2. - 6.   When dry fill in between the black lines with different colors of Crystal Gloss Enamels and let dry

*Work on several at a time so that the colors can dry between stripes

Jar Makeover with Coloring Books

If you're a bit of a hoarder like me, I'll bet you have a ton of pasta and jam jars in your cabinets just waiting for a fun weekend project, right?  Some days I can barely get to my coffee mug in the morning because they just keep piling up and I won't toss them out!  Well, grab your adult coloring books and let's make some snazzy pencil cups.  It's easy and they'll look amazing with all of your colorful writing tools.  Remember to recycle, stay organized and always

Americana Decoupage Medium in Matte

Spray bottle with water

Krylon Paint Marker

 HERE'S HOW

1.  Measure the jar from top to base

2. Cut out the shape so it fits around the jar

3.  Cut slits every 1/2" or so along the top and bottom so that it can easily fit around the tapered ends of the jar when you decoupage

4.  Mist the paper on the front and back side to relax it

*This ensures you have no bubbles when you apply it

5.  Apply the decoupage to a section of the jar and keep adding it around the jar as
you adhere the paper

6.  Coat the entire jar with more decoupage

7.  When completely dry, scrape off the excess around the mouth with a craft knife for a clean edge

8.  Use a paint marker around the mouth edge to give it a nice finish

9.  Fill them with your writing tools

So pretty!
